i think the appeal of the inverse encyclopaedic world-for-its-own-sake approach (read: Sanderson) is about escapism. readers/worldbuilders are attracted to worldbuilding/lore because living in a fantasy second-world is appealing. but i'm extremely wary of this as a literary end. to me, that's death.
