Cork, what a county. Its September 1934 and the Derry Journal reports that at a cinema dance in Buttevant, Co. Cork, all the women there refused to dance with the fascist Blueshirts. A Blueshirt announced that they had paid their way in and if no girls would dance with them.. [1/2]

It would be great to see the UK govt paying attention to the people, often their friends, who openly state their desire to wipe out Catholics and/or Muslims, but it seems unlikely.

The Irish government has perfected the art of talking the talk on climate change while failing to actually reduce emissions or improve public health. My letter in The Irish Times explores why hosting the next global fossil fuel conference means nothing without domestic action.

Unimpressed by the idea that the Social Democrats for example should pretend stuff like Sinn Fein local reps supporting ant-immigrant protests isn't happening so as not to jeopardise some future coalition. SF may turn a blind eye for reasons of internal cohesion. Other parties are not compelled to.
