Failed physicist then banker. Sorry. (He/him/idiot.)
I'm not a fan of podcasts - preferring to read a transcription at my own pace. Which may be a slow read or a quick skim. But I always listen to IfG's output, which is really good and stuffed with information that I don't know and really should. Recommended. Look at the cast!

Every day since 2016 the Daily Express has discovered, with accompanying outrage, that leaving the European Union meant leaving the European Union.

My only contribution to the UK food discourse is that if you want to understand Britain you should be aware that we invented a condiment featuring a delicate, tangy, sweetly sharp blend of tomatoes, molasses, dates, apples, tamarind, allspice, vinegar and raisins and gave it the name “brown sauce”

I'm a huge fan of Ben Rivers - so much so that I even have two of his works on 16mm film, and they don't work too well on an Apple. I'd avoid "The Sky Trembles". Cinematic marmite in Technicolor.

It's instructive and fun to search for space images, to get a feel for the technical and artistic approaches to
#astrophotography
. My first Bubble Nebula attempt is pretty far down the list in terms of quality, but it was a still a thrill to capture this jewel (soft focus & wonky stars and all!)

Weird. It's 5th November and in my part of London I've heard just a couple of bangs so far. It's 10.50 pm, and it's the weekend too. In past years a cacophony. My roof a landing site for rockets. Any reasons? Do others see a difference? In the past I could also see/hear public displays. None.

Woo hoo, This will strike everyone as silly, but I'm SO excited. Having replaced my dying Mac laptop (keyboard losing keys, software no longer supported, after only 15 years dammit), I then bought an external DVD/Blu-Ray drive.

This is what giving Israel a blank check yields. Death for children. It's really that simple. America is doing this with its weapons transfers and its refusal to hold the Israeli government to account for its war crimes. And yes, this is a war crime.

Today the SNB Observatory (consisting of Yvan Lengwiler, Charles Wyplosz and me) released a report on whether the SNB should continue to pay interest on bank reserves. The report is here:

Should the Swiss National Bank pay interest to banks?
The practice of remunerating commercial banks for reserves they hold with the central bank is a fairly recent phenomenon. In the new world of higher interest rates, it should be scrapped.

Perhaps it's me, but Bsky seems to be quite a British and European thing. Lots of my favourite posters from these regions are here (I was surprised how many), but few from the US and elsewhere so far. Is that because I haven't been around long enough to know, or do others also see it?
