I cried through the whole thing. His music was so important in our house growing up. As an adult now and knowing more, it's so hard to know how under-appreciated his genius was. And even more difficult to handle when he couldn't experience the kind of love he wrote and sang about so beautifully.

Before the evening took a funny turn, we did have a nice moment together.
