Last movie you tried to watch that was so fucking bad you couldn’t finish it? For me it was this rank turd.

I’m hoping that by the end of this John Irving shows me that it’s possible to be a friend of Israel and also have sufficient empathy for the Palestinian people and outrage over the genocide being committed against them. I’m really hoping Irving pulls this one off somehow.

Just watched for the first time. Good movie! But why did Gene Hackman’s Little Bill, a known killer, care so much about preventing other killers from killing other-OTHER killers he had no loyalty or connection to? Bit of a plot hole there if I do say so myself.

Wow there is a lot of stuff about Zionism in this book and I’m only 100 pages in.

Now reading the new one by my favorite author! This will be my *does math* ninth or tenth (?) Irving book, and I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time.

I’m not a picky or cheap shopper — like, I’ve been known to spend too much on clothes, too often — but like why the fuck does this light jacket cost this much money? For this price, this thing had better be keeping me warm even when I’m not wearing it.

Well no one was a goddamn bit of help on this, that’s for sure.

Whenever I read Chair Company analysis I feel like I’m being gaslit because nobody seems to get that everything in this show is sweet, glorious, ridiculous nonsense. Also this reads like satire, because what the fuck do you mean THAT sounds too neat and tidy 😭

Goddamn great book, honestly. Not as good as Lonesome Dove, but still really beautifully done. And damn sad, too.

The Leftovers finale nailed it in a way I never would have thought possible.

Heard a song in a cafe and I know it but I can’t place it. It’s a rock song and in the chorus it says “I don’t really know” and something like “feels like paradise” Sounds almost like the Screaming Trees but that’s not it. Help?

Done. This took a full calendar month to read, but man was it worth it. This is … *kind of* the Book of All Time when you think about it.

What kind of neurodivergence do I have that makes me compulsively cast actual, living actors as characters in the books I read?

I think this is the longest I’ve spent on a book this year aside from Anna Karenina. I’m still chipping away at this thing, roughly 3/4 of the way through, but it’s been such a lovely holiday read. My goodness.

Sometimes I forget Bluesky exists for like a week at a time.

Sometimes my partner jokingly asks me what I bring to this relationship, and I remind her that I’ve cleared every clogged toilet we’ve ever had. That usually settles things.

As much as I love Yorgos, this one wasn’t for me. It was a cruel movie, and it didn’t have enough laughs to offset that cruelty. I was expecting for this to be my movie of the year, but no.

Not quite halfway through this beast but I’m really enjoying it so far. I’m finding much more pleasure in it than I did in Great Expectations (which I also really loved).

Welp, I’m only like ONE-SEVENTH of the way through this and it’s already made me cry. Third book to do so in the past year. (The others were The Hotel New Hampshire and Lonesome Dove.)

I’ll be honest, the first 50 pages were ROUGH & I wasn’t sure I’d make it. But I’m glad I did because it got very good indeed. It was almost comical, but it’s also a reflection of the worst of us. And it’s scary how relatable the shitfuck of a narrator can be 😬

This is like what if Curb Your Enthusiasm was a piece of classic Russian literature.

Finished this, and it’s a corker. A brisk, adrenalized speed run of a book. It serves as a reminder of the dizzying and debilitating effects of obsession and ego, and of the importance of learning your lesson when you have the chance.

“It's a Beautiful Place” by Water From Your Eyes is Disastro-approved.

You guys I’ve read half this book in half a day, this thing bloody rips. It’s so engaging and fun.
