Finished this. What a beautiful and confounding book. I’m not entirely sure I “got” that ending, but the book, despite its endlessly experimental prose, held my attention in a vice. I think this one’s gonna get a re-read someday. Highly, highly recommend this.

Sometimes I feel like I want to be a fiction writer, but then I realize I don’t know enough about anything to pull such a thing off. If I wrote a character who worked in finance, I’d have to say, like: “Todd worked in finance, doing money-type stuff, for banks probably.”

One of the very few 5-star books I’ve read in recent years. I simply have no notes.

Halfway through this fucker and IT. IS. WORK. Jesus fucking Christ, this thing. I have MANY complaints — so many that it’s difficult to organize them in my thoughts. Anyway, fuck, on we go.

I’m also reading this 1,000-page book that’s mostly one enormous run-on sentence. This is the first time I’ve read two books at once in a while and it’s a real headtrip with this thing in the mix.

What Black authors are absolutely killing it in contemporary literature? For all the reading I’ve been doing, I’ve neglected Black authors almost entirely for the last few years, and I don’t know why. So I’m looking for some recommendations. #booksky

I’m hoping that by the end of this John Irving shows me that it’s possible to be a friend of Israel and also have sufficient empathy for the Palestinian people and outrage over the genocide being committed against them. I’m really hoping Irving pulls this one off somehow.
