Scott Arthur MP's Private Members Bill - supported by many of our member charities, has officially become law! The Rare Cancers Act 2026 will prioritise long overlooked aspects of research, and has the potential to transform outcomes for those affected by rare and less common cancers.

A breakthrough moment; a clear focus with 13 specific commitments on rare and less common cancers in the new National Cancer Plan for England. This plan has the potential to address longstanding issues for these cancers and we look forward to supporting its implementation.

World Cancer Day is a reminder to come together to take action against cancer. In the UK, 47% of cancer diagnoses are of rare and less common cancers, yet they account for 55% of cancer deaths. We must work collaboratively to overcome this difference. #WorldCancerDay #UnitedByUnique

This week is Less Survivable Cancers Awareness Week. Five out of the six cancers – brain, liver, oesophageal, pancreatic and stomach – are rare and less common. Like many rare and less common cancers, the less survivable cancers typically have less investment in research. #CloseTheResearchGap

Busy time at #Lab25, connecting with policy makers and member charities. With the National Cancer Plan in the final stages of development, it’s a vital time to collaborate to improve outcomes for people affected by rare & less common cancers.

Today, One Cancer Voice sets out 6 key asks for the National Cancer Plan. As a @cancer52org.bsky.social member, ALK+ UK stands with this call. The National Cancer Plan must deliver for everyone affected by cancer - including those with rare & less common cancers like ALK+ #lungcancer. #LCSM

2.92 million new cancer cases will be rare & less common. We welcome the six tests nominated by #OneCancerVoice. Focussed and targeted action in the new National Cancer Plan is needed to combat the projected increase to and provide a much-needed boost to survival rates.

We are so pleased that the Rare Cancers Bill passed its 3rd Reading in the House of Commons on Friday. This Bill could mark a significant step forward in addressing the urgent need for increased focus and research in the field of rare cancers.
