Last week I visited the new Barratts development on Ilderton Road which delivers new homes as well as storage/logistics space. The scheme delivers 35% affordable housing and I'm delighted that 58 much-needed new social rent homes managed by L&G will soon be occupied by Southwark residents 👏👏👏

Always wondered how the Star Wars Emperor could start with a battle-hardened army and end up with an "entire legion of his best troops" being beaten to death by teddybears with sticks. Then Hegseth ended up as US Defence Sec. And now yeah that makes sense.

Romanian authorities this morning arrested pro-Kremlin presidential candidate Călin Georgescu. Officials found $10m in cash and plane tickets to Moscow at the home of one of his bodyguards. This is the man that JD Vance and Elon Musk claim is being treated unfairly by Romanian and EU authorities.

Is it valid to apply marginal utility of consumption weights to transport benefits? i.e. poorer people feel more benefit. If so it would transform how we prioritise schemes. e.g. Benefits for a scheme on Old Kent Road (a poorer part of London) would increase by 64% based on my very rough calcs

Lessons for the UK here too, of course. Defence procurement is notoriously bad at efficiency and value for money. I'm reticent to suggest any areas for government cuts, but when needed, defence efficiencies should always be the first port of call.

This is my mum with my sister. 29 years ago I watched as cancer took her from us. The last weeks were excruciating. I don’t know if she would have chosen to end her life sooner but I do know that she should have had the choice. I urge MPs this week to give everyone the choice to die with dignity.
