Today, I joined my colleagues on the Senate steps to mark five years since the horrific January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. We remember the violence, honor the bravery of the Capitol Police, and renew our duty to protect democracy and our Constitution.

January 6 is a reminder: democracy doesn’t defend itself. People do. We remember. We resist. We rebuild.

Today we remember January 6th—a terrible day when our democracy was under violent attack. We can never let it happen again. I’ll fight in Congress to protect voting rights and make sure no one can ever try to steal an election on our watch.

Five years ago today, law enforcement officers bravely defended our democracy during the January 6 attack on our Capitol. 140 officers were seriously injured and several lost their lives. We honor their service and the sacrifice made in defense of our democracy.
