This paper came out 1 mo ago. The spirochete #Brachyspira pilosicoli is a commensal linked to #IBS, diarrhea & abdominal pain. I am very proud of this paper, currently under revision. Very few labs have set out to define the function of membrane mucins outside the context of cancer. Here we defined the regiospecific function of membrane mucin MUC17 in the intestine. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... #glycotime #mucin

We rang in #2022 by introducing a new member of the mucin (MUC) family, MUC3B that joined 3 already annotated membrane mucin genes clustered together on the human chromosome 7q22! journals.plos.org/plosone/arti... #mucins #glycotime
