The "supply chain" framing allows us to unpack the process, the rules, intermediary institutions through which "horizontally-differentiated policy actions" are designed, funded, and implemented within "vertically structured policy domains"

We discuss supply chains for 6 domains: strategy and planning, business recruitment and retention, small business support, community redevelopment, workforce development, and technological innovation. Across all of these domains, policies are implemented via a range of local intermediaries

Innovation job market papers round up! Over the last week, I found 50+ papers from PhDs going on the job market and I’ll post a few abstracts to this thread every day until they’re all up.

“So yes, let’s have a commission devoted to making the government work more efficiently. But that’s different from cutting the government down to size, and it’s certainly not the same as simply running it like a business.”

I joined Bluesky recently and am finally getting around to making a starter pack! Not surprisingly on the area that most interests me: RETHINKING THE STATE - the direction of growth, mission-oriented organisations, public sector capabilities & dynamic purpose-oriented partnerships. Share & follow ⬇️

This is spot on. There's a need for better targeting of programs, coordination between departments, & citizen-centered delivery. But the fetish for "efficiency" - defined in terms of inputs like costs & headcount - is an anachronism. A framing in terms of *effectiveness* would much more productive.

A fair reading of the last 4 years is Biden accomplished a lot of what Dems wanted in 2020-22 and then badly damaged the party and its fortunes over the last 12+ months.

In many ways, Bluesky’s core audience of early adopter geriatric Millennials — very Online information junkies who are suspicious of big tech, crypto, and AI — is almost anti-positioned to understand the kind of appeals that will hit for Zoomer swing voters.
