I was fortunate to be in Hungary in the late 90s and saw how their new democracy was flourishing. Over the course of past 16 years, Viktor Orbán has hollowed out Hungary’s newfound democracy piece by piece.

It’s incredibly exciting to see the people of Hungary retake their country and overwhelmingly reject Orbán’s authoritarian rule. America is taking notes! 👏

Dismantling + controlling public media. Enriching himself + his oligarch friends while the working class struggled. Manipulating elections and installing judges of his choice. Destroying the economy. Sound familiar? As Steve Bannon says, Orbán was Trump before Trump.

Yup. The only reason Orban is accepting his defeat is that he knows that if he were to attempt to hold onto power by force, he'd wind up as a street ornament.

The fact that Orbán conceded so quickly — let alone at all — shows the astounding extent of the opposition's win. Orbán had literally no chance whatsoever to contest the result. He was decisively and clearly rejected by the Hungarian people.

Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise. He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media. The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.
