Halloween is our 5 year anniversary and we celebrated with Trick ‘R Treat 🎃 The final shot of Mr Kreeg’s porch, haunted by the undead children, reminded me A HECK of a lot of “Bellingham sends his regards,” from Tales From The Darkside. Both are quite frightening — love ‘em.

Buggering about with my best mate Oody visiting the filming locations from Let Sleeping Corpses Lie across the Peak District. Weathers has been 100% English— chucking it down then gorgeous blue skies two seconds later!! Will be doing a blog post and video soon!

Currently watching Let Sleeping Corpses Lie with Mum. She’s chuckling already which is a surefire sign it’s a winner!

Back in England, at St Pancras awaiting my train to the Midlands, and have already texted my family group chat several very British observations — and none included the weather (it’s raining, naturally) It’s good to be home!!!

The world is going to hell so we are rewatching one of my favourite films tonight. Drop Dead Gorgeous just landed back on streaming (paramount plus) so I get to relive the entire masterpiece along with this— possibly the funniest moment in the movie?

I love @certifiedforgot.bsky.social so damn much. I just signed up today for an annual subscription, as I bloomin forgot when they switched payment models. The two Matts love championing both underseen horror and underheard voices. I always find new movies thanks to their site and podcast!

Caught Weapons at our usual time (Saturday morning), and had 18 people in the screening which genuinely is packed for that little theatre. Gotta believe this is down to a phenomenal marketing campaign which betrays little of the meat of the story; I’ll be interested to see how it fares week 2!

Sweetheart, Sweetheart — favourite book of the year so far (after King Sorrow). Late 70s English village life disrupted by a series of mishaps at a cottage. Taylor’s prose reminds me of books I read as a kid, sprawling, hazy delightful England… that’s full of terror. Strong recommend!

Reason #6373980 why I love my job and why public libraries remain vital— prepping for our Teen Writing Camp that starts Monday. A free 3-day program for 6-12 graders led by myself and good friend /amazing scribe Rayne Lacko. I’m so excited to support our local teens with creative endeavours!

Having recently finished the latest Sarah Pinborough, I jumped into a much older horror tome— Bernard Taylor’s Sweetheart, Sweetheart— and they’re such perfect companion reads. English cottages, nefarious goings-on, steeped in atmos! Love when this sort of just happens!

Absolutely wild that my one and only trip to SDCC was 8 years ago, back when I wrote for @gamesradar.com.web.brid.gy. Had the best time getting to hang with the Total Film gang— loved the heat and the buzz! Sending everyone there this year all the vibes for good health and fun discoveries 🎉

Picked up these two at our island’s annual rummage sale— not heard of the author or either title but they’re mid90s YA horror. Nightmare Matinee has teens at a horror movie turning into the characters?! Sounds right up my street!

I try to read widely for work but my heart is rooted (rotted?) in horror, esp this time of year. Teenage summertimes were when I fell in love with the genre (and probs why I only wanna re-read Stephen King right now.) So many good titles coming out this year!!!

Gosh, I’ve not been on here in months but had to hop on because I’m halfway thru possibly my favourite book of the year— Joe Hill’s upcoming King Sorrow. A sprawling fantasy horror epic that’s gonna spawn a ton of convo when it’s released in October. Add to your TBR lists, now.

It feels necessary to alert folks to the fact that The Convent Blu-ray is on sale right now at Amzn for $13. One of my absolute favourite 2000s horrors. Bloody love the tagline, too: nuns, guns, and gasoline.
