I don’t really care who started it, but both sides of the AI debate—“society’s savior!” and “it’s useless”—sound foolish at this point.

I really have a hard time understanding why this is so controversial. It almost seems like people cannot hold this belief as a matter of psychology (i.e. it’s either all bad or all good). It would even make more sense if people took issue with the ideas of the founders..

The goodness of America has been that the founding ideals of universal rights and liberties prevailed over the actually-existing social order of the time. That’s why we can celebrate the men who embedded those ideals in our government despite their own participation in that social order.

We often say Trump is unamerican because of his rejection of the diversity that makes us great, but he’s also a disgrace just by the standards of the revolutionary generation; many of the grievances in the Declaration apply to him, and Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton would’ve hated his ass.
