Poorline and Barnabus on the telly eating a Family Court Dad Meal Deal cooked in an office kitchenette is somehow the Platonic form of our media-political culture: vile idiots doing dumb things given publicity about nothing.

This is a good point. (No snark.) I'm sure this SCOTUS sneers at Trump in private, but the conservative majority is trying to bank power for a better version of a right-winger.

In the last few days, the Times has had to delete two stories. One because someone pretended to be former Mayor Bill de Blasio to a reporter and one because they wrote up nonsense about Torsten Bell's expenses. Needs a new editor badly.

Jane Austen's 250th birthday is coming up in December and I hope you'll celebrate by taking a turn about the room, acquiring a passion for dead leaves & closet shelves, and taking a fancy to the last person you could ever be prevailed upon to marry.

Lol, hard for young 'uns to understand maybe but post-war, "anti-Nazi" was as close to a universal view as you might ever see. It's why so many are STILL in denial about what Donny is doing. It feels impossible.

I find it weird how people can acknowledge that UK politics is volatile to an unprecedented degree and yet talk very confidently about the shape of an election in 2029. Reform is depicted as a permanent and unstoppable force and Labour as utterly doomed. Doesn't add up to me

As alarmed as people may be, they aren't alarmed enough. Trump just escalated this crisis from a fight between the federal government and a state, to a situation where one state is deploying armed forces to impose its will on another state.

The lesson of the Trump era is to stick with your principles. He’s coming for you anyway, whether you do or not, so you might as well stick to your principles so people don’t laugh at you afterward and you can look yourself in the mirror.

I suggest that the 2020s version of this Right Wing comedian phenomenon is the Riyadh festival. There is also something akin to the failed or declining mainstream politician or personality hooking themselves into the populist right grifting machine about it.
