It's been a frustrating week dealing with some major men's and women's teams requesting changes to quotes pre-publication. This has become the norm in recent years and it's setting a very worrying precedent for the future. Independent publications are not PR vehicles for teams/riders.

I drove up stage 11's last climb, the Côte de Saint-Pech, yesterday. The first 250 metres are a brutal wall of so-so tarmac after a tight left turn (slowing down the bunch) and it drags on after that. Perfect springboard for an attacker - or punchy Pogačar.

While writing my next book, I came across a @cyclingweekly.com article with bookmaker odds noting Mark Padun as joint-seventh favourite for the 2021 Tour de France. Mad times. (He didn't make the Bahrain Victorious team that year and has never raced it.)
