Hidden in the corner of the playing field by Newbold Quarry is recreation glade,we cleared the East facing bank and have been brush cutting and removing arisings for a few years now. The flora and fauna are a sharp contrast to the amenity grassland area....

. The dirch on the far side of the path is usually 1 ft. deep water and we were able to walk in it this year! Something is affecting the ground water in the cutting.....

It’s 2 weeks today that British Summer Time becomes Greenwich Mean Time again as the clocks fall back 1 hour at 2am on the 26th of October. Sunrise on the 26th will be at 6.48am and the sun will set in the county at 4.45pm.

Shared use path at Draycote resevoir was too busy and tthe Mallard were kicking off too. Egret minding its own biz though. I took the footpath loop back to Thurlaston and found Hen of the Woods. Reputed to be very tasty and good for health. @britmycolsoc.org.uk

Grassland management at

today, We've been cutting 50% of the grasslands but made 2 exceptions today as 2 "fields" had become dominated by Bramble so we cut all of those. We'll have more time for coppice projects in Winter before we cut half of the uncut grassland in Spring

Summer Leys on 1st October. In the uncut half of grassland by the car park were a couple of Small Heath and this Small Copper butterfly. The Small Copper is the aberration with the blue spots on the hind wing!!

Don't call me Cabbage White! My eyes detect movement faster than any human eye, being made up of tiny photoreceptors called ommatidia. My 2 antennae are used 4 balance & 2 detect scents. I enjoy smelling in stereo! My 6 legs are extremely tactile & more sensitive than your fingertips. I am a marvel.
