We've been iterating on @roomy.space's event schema recently and one of the changes has been to make an ATProto lexicon for it. Here's are the work-in-progress lexicons for the curious: gist.github.com/zicklag/94c6... These are auto-generated from the arktype.io types Roomy uses internally.

local first vs atproto!! what should the source of truth for group data be?

I'm extremely excited about getting Roomy really working in the very near future. It's been nearly a year since I threw together a wild experiment that let you log into a jerry rigged Matrix client with an ATProto account.

Right now the service endpoint is an HTTP server, and it uses socket.io for realtime communication. BUT it's extremely feasible that in the future we could let you use an @iroh.computer ticket as a service endpoint and you could serve your Leaf space over a peer-to-peer network connection.

We already have an explorer app for Leaf that can be used to query from streams! You can use it to send events too. It's kind of like the excellent @pdsls.dev but for Leaf. Here is the first event sent in a Roomy "personal stream". You might notice it looks kind of like an XRPC call.

Nerds behold, the very first Leaf stream DID: did:plc:tqd32oyrvfdkzh62zmk3tftv Soon every space in @roomy.space shall have it's own Leaf stream with it's own DID.

I'm happy to go with it for now without feeling like I'm going to regret it later. Also, it's a DID, so at least there's some standardization and ability to swap it out with another method later if necessary. PS: we're going to be using DID PLC for space identifiers in @roomy.space.

The latest experimental release of Roomy has pages! Pages are markdown under-the-hood, and have a simple WYSIWYG. They also track the edit history like a wiki!

Just finished some performance tuning for @roomy.space. The UI can load an entire space containing 55k messages from the server and index it in the local database in 10 seconds! 😲 The entire space history!! New features may slow some of that down, but there is still room for more speed, too.

We deployed our latest code and new architecture to roomy.space, but things are still very experimental. We are able to use the UI work from the previous version of Roomy, but it isn't "plugged in" yet, so most features are not fully functional. Getting those things working again is th next step!

Heads up! roomy.chat is now called @roomy.space! Roomy will let you start with chat, but grow that into so much more long term. The new name reflects the nature of giving you room to share whatever you need in your personal and communal spaces.

I think the big chunk missing right now to fully use atproto without bsky is for independent appviews to stop adopting their bans, and to achieve real full independence we need lighter appviews. The relays are kinda optional, by the way You may want to check this out blog.muni.town/atproto-isnt...

As an app-maker, as a start-state, it’s soo nice to be able to defer Accounts Management and Personal Data Storage to trusted 3rd parties. Bluesky is just the first of many in @roomy.chat’s ‘bring-your-own-ID’ strategy. Soon the options will include @blacksky.app @transrights.northsky.social etc.
