Today has been taken up with this Mini that won't illuminate the speedo or indicator/headlamp tell tales. Endless tracing wiring has found no faults other than a blown bulb in the cigarette lighter illumination so far. All connectors with no corrosion, bcm and fusebox look perfect. A real puzzle.

This is like seeing a beautiful, listed but ultimately useless building falling into disrepair. Extremely sad but you wouldn't want to be the one to take it on. And that's coming from someone who's owned one of these amazing, hopeless lumps.

More Autocar archive. Always liked this 2001 test of all the stuff you could get under £10k. Fairly diverse - city cars, superminis, MPVs, baby hot hatches, quite a spread of manufacturers. Just went through price lists and lemme tell you, it's difficult to assemble that many cars today...
