I call it “joyful rigor” when I explain this effort to my students. I don’t believe in or rather, I’m not a “suffering poet.” I’m a writer who enjoys writing. The work works on me and I’m grateful for the opportunity to delve into the process at my own pace and to be changed by it.

It’s wild to me that humans think *anything* in nature might not have a function (like river sediment is just, I don’t know, leftover dust 🤦🏾♀️), but this is good news.

It is not lost on me that we currently don't have a United States Poet Laureate. Ada Limón's second term ended in April. I don't know if there have been other gaps; all of the information I can find suggests that the Poet Laureate position has been filled officially since 1985. 1/3

I’m turning Sunday’s screen-free (no phone, no computer, no tv) and it’s really upping my reading game. Spent yesterday with this collection and it was sooooo good. Got me in my lyrical feels about loneliness and connection. Devoured it! Thanks for your gifts

What the what??? 😮 I used to skip school to go hang out in these stacks. I’m having wild time-space continuum breaching visions about my 15 year old self finding this chapbook on the shelf while avoiding a trig test. 😂 Thanks to all who ordered!! How dreamy 🥰🥰🥰 …..also, the titles on this list….❤️🔥❤️🔥

Listen, things are fucked, but that doesn’t mean your accomplishments don’t matter. Wrote a book? Got accepted to a program? Recorded a song? One year sober? Whatever it is, share it. Maybe your joy will bring someone else a bit of joy, and we all need that.
