The year wrapped up nicely last week. Finished my edits on my latest novel and sent it to the editor, got a biomedical AI paper published in MELBA journal, and my paper on incorporating consent in AI systems "Consentful-by-Design" was accepted at AI & Society journal, my proudest paper to date 🙌

I'm in the current issue of Analog. I managed to negotiate to a contract I was willing to sign. Naively, I thought that established writers giving this feedback would eventually make a dent. It hasn't. I don't know that it will. I just wrote to Trevor withdrawing a story I'd sold to him.

Oh frig it's awards eligibility post season! Had a few things come out but what I'd like to focus on is my debut novella FEEDING THE WHEEL (Dead Sky Publishing, July 2025). On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. What I'm realizing through writing long-form is I'll always return to shorts as well. Long is a commitment, but shorts is where I get to experiment more liberally, re-discovering my writing and voice with each tale.

"2nd" draft done, and by 2nd I mean some sections were edited like 7 times and others just once and 32k words were eliminated entirely. Not sure what cursed number of draft it really is, but the story is down. What's left is the prose polish and an editor to roast me into re-thinking it all.
