1985, 16 years old, read one of the most philosophical and humanist comics, by Peter Gillis, of my favorite character. Shows great compassion and understanding, with an essay on sacrifice and moral advice almost straight from Jeremy Bentham. The complete opposite of the Secret Wars II series.

Rehabilitating Professor X's character isn't easy due to incompatibility of utilitarianism with telepathy (negative responsibility and degradation of virtue) comicphilosophy.com/index.php/20... But Hivemind duo @collinkelly.bsky.social @jacksonlanzing.bsky.social wrote a great depiction in NYX #9.

There have always been ethical contradictions at the heart of Professor X Charles Xavier's character. His longtermism is incompatible with utilitarianism. @kierongillen.bsky.social @gerryduggan.bsky.social @al-ewing.bsky.social captured this well in the Fall of X comicphilosophy.com/index.php/20...

Marvel's Magneto has gone through many cycles of redemption in the comics. His original egoistic consequentialism has been largely replaced by classic virtue ethics in recent years. Probably no one writes him better than @al-ewing.bsky.social comicphilosophy.com/index.php/20...

Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) is a great comic superhero thanks to the character rehabilitation by @kellysue.bsky.social and @margaretstohl.bsky.social. Across a long history, Marvel's Daredevil consistently demonstrates deontological ethics. His morality is complex though, with strong Catholic religious elements and some virtue ethics. comicphilosophy.com/index.php/20...
