Just unbelievable how long we have been explaining this. We are not “former soviet” similarly to why we don’t say now former Nazi Germany or former Vichy France. In many countries it was a military occupation by a Soviet regime. You are erasing pre-occupation history. Erasing diversity.

With yet another killing by ICE, otherwise disparate political resistance frames are consolidating, anti-ICE protests will inevitably become national. The question is whether in the coming days or after more victims.

I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.

It’s hard to accurately describe what is happening in Minneapolis without sounding crazy. Unmarked rental vans all over the city, with people in military gear and no id jumping out of them to take captive anyone who looks nonwhite or who makes political speech they disagree with.

Latvija ir maza valsts grūtos laikos, un jā, protams, nav jālec uz ecēšām. Bet ir jāatceras tāds minimums kā: neizturies pret citas valsts (pie tam tuva sabiedrotā) suverenitātes apdraudējumu tā, kā tu negribētu, lai citi izturas, ja būtu apdraudēta Latvijas suverenitāte.
