People mind. They really, really do. People mind getting sick. It’s not ok to spread infectious disease through policy with foresight. I know, because they jump a mile when they see my respie and ask me if I’m ill.

I know because I hear the complaints about “I went in with COVID and came out with flu.”

Do hospitals realise, that when they don’t do what they can to prevent the spread of disease in kids… the parents are impacted too. Loss of earnings. Loss of sleep. Getting sick themselves. Grandparents in multigenerational households? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🪦

I think I was the only person on the Gold Coast in a mask of any sort. And I would like to say that the people of Queensland were incredibly respectful about it. They didn’t bat an eyelid here on the Gold Coast.

You know… when I was growing up… it was normal to hear of friends dad’s having their first heart attack, and back then, often dying of it, by the time we were in high school.

And it will come at a time of deepening climate crisis, other novel pathogens, old pathogens behaving in new ways etc.

And so it is with COVID. The decision makers are not in the group that’s gonna lose their livelihoods and lives first… And it’s not like the data doesn’t show the impact. It does.

And almost everyone smoked… but still those that were poorest, working hardest, were the most severely affected.

I’m afraid that I can’t refute this. My feeling is it will be similar to the tobacco issue. Some might say that’s tolerable, but it is sad.

One of the problems is… a cornerstone of FND management is *not to over investigate*… but a cornerstone of novel infectious disease research is to turn every stone… and hopefully trial and find treatments.
