2Stair Hallways allow a burning unit with an open door to infect a massive number of units with smoke, and then force people to travel long distances through that smoke. The idea that this status quo is good / better than single stair is just crazy.

Driving down 32nd Ave NW last night I slowed down as I saw a figure walking a dog cross the street. Was only after I stopped that I realized a rapid flashing becon was blinking. Maybe I saw it blinking in my peripheral vision and narrowed in on the figure. Why didn’t the RFB light the figure below?

Last night about 5pm I had to cross Centre Street in Chinatown. It was me and an elderly person walking towards me in the cross walk. I had lots of time arriving late but the other individual was not a quick mover and the light started to count down.

It is striking to see how people in the same place have such wildly divergent understandings of reality (or what they understand as reality)... maybe it has ever been thus, but it seems increasingly polarized

Maybe some of the city’s budget should go to combating misinformation. So many people are reaching for easy fixes to complex problems. I’m so sad listening to such disadvantaged people being manipulated out of reality.

The issue is speed and mass. We have accepted vehicles that are too large and accepted speeds that are too fast to be safe when operating near points of interaction with people walking. What fatality risk do you accept? Find it on graph and you’ll see the corresponding speed.
