7 years of Catholic school for me, and my MAGA parents, when talking to me about politics, stated "We must have raised you wrong." My reply; "You sent me to Catholic school where I learned about compassion and loving unconditionally." They just sent me for potential corporal punishment and guilt.

My parents are 80, and maga. They have a radically different take on reality... I witness it daily. It's insane. Trump people are actively suppressing reality. They actually think gas is cheaper, food is cheaper, violence is gone and world peace has been achieved. I am not exaggerating 😵‍💫💀

My MAGA dad seriously complained about the church asking for money after both his parents died. The charge? Both my grandparents bought candy for a man who used to own a candy shop before he went to a home. They had a plaque and everything. My dad didn't fucking care. That's who we're dealing with.

My very MAGA parents who barely knew who Kirk was before this week and are now mourning him were also just talking about how unfortunate it was that people were losing their jobs for statements abt Kirk. This is a chilling moment, but the public and the powerful are not on the same wavelength here.

I don’t expect her to be making good decisions right now, but that speech certainly had the opposite effect of taking down the temperature. Both of my MAGA parents sent me hate mail blaming me for Kirk’s death after hearing that speech.

I don’t have a relationship with my parents or my sister. They’re MAGA Christians and they have no concept of introspection. It is anathema to their religious ideology and their political beliefs. They’re right. Everyone else is deluded by fake news, AI generated stuff, etc.

I think you have to open your mind to the idea that they are simply bad people; people who lack basic empathy for others and want to see some people suffer. I‘ve certainly come to understand that about my own MAGA family members.

Yep. I tried to have a conversation with my parents yesterday and my mom pretty much said in so many words, “Whatever crimes he (Trump) has committed against individuals are of little significance when compared to the good he will do for this country.”

It's tough. I never wanted to be so disconnected from my parents but I also had to draw a line. They aren't the only people I love and these policies are hurting them and so many others I care about. Unfortunately, their hate was more than their love for their children and others.
