In the 20th century, there were many years where the temperature never exceeded 30°C *anywhere* in the UK. In 1974, the highest temperature was a mere 28.0°C, which really underscores how extreme 1976 was for the time. That climate no longer exists.

So much of the (intense) focus on NWS upper air issues has been on impacts on model forecasts - but we collect this data as part of a global effort to ensure high quality data for climate and atmospheric monitoring, and the US is currently not living up to its commitments. tinyurl.com/4ys6daef
