Possibly the most obscure advertising campaign ever but after over a hundred thousand clicks and nearly a thousand enquiries I did actually manage to sell two records. Significantly better results than trying to maintain a promo list or get a review anywhere.

Here endeth the facts.

So enthused with the world of mail art, a year later, we held another: ‘The Future of Dogs’; this time making songs for the exhibition on a Casio (some of which ended up on Eat Your Own Ears) and a talking dog made from chicken wire and an old curtain - which somehow ended up on the news channel CNN

Fact 6. Once, after being sent the wrong mail, we surreptitiously joined an international network of mail artists - and sent out invites on the theme of ‘The History Of Dogs’. We received dog art from all over the world, which after exhibiting a few times, Chris accidentally left on a bus in Brazil

Fact 5. During a gig at a festival in a haunted castle in Ireland, someone/thing managed to defecate on stage during our set - unseen by any band members (2 of whom were crowd surfing at the time), or the audience.

Fact 4. One of our tracks - ‘Gypsy Chimp’ - was used to bring a man out of a coma. Just to make sure, his wife later asked us to play it live at his ‘Happy Birthday, you’re not dead’ party. It was a good night. (I think he’s still alive)

Fact 3. The first W.S. record was called ‘Eat Your Own Ears’. We were very proud of the title - which was later stolen from us by a London based music promoter and used as their company name. We're not bitter. We just came up with even more stupid titles to stop anyone doing the same thing again

Fact 2. Our name was given to us by our pal Mark - who, on hearing our first (and very wrong) attempt at ‘I just called to say I love you’ said it sounded more like Wevie Stonder. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Fact 1. W.S. began in 1979, when me and Rich recorded some chickens down an old telephone onto tape, and played it back while hitting a biscuit tin and a 3 stringed guitar.

Bluesky seems to have awarded us an Invalid Handle - not sure what that is but I like the sound of it. Might come in handy, you never know.
