Feeling very inspired post- #ncph2025. It’s been tough to find good projects for my undergrad public history class. I always want to work with community partners, but it’s tough w/uni policy on class size and my own limitations on time/energy.

An excellent weekend so far. We experienced the convenience and joy of the South Shore Line for traveling to Chicago. We saw Taylor Tomlinson with friends. We wandered around the Art Institute of Chicago.

I have an alarm that reminds me to eat lunch on MWF at 12:15pm. My dept meetings are some Wednesdays at 12pm, so the alarm goes off during these meetings. This visibly annoys some of my colleagues, but like… bro if I can’t remember to eat lunch, do you think I’ll to remember to turn off that alarm?

It’s been a bit of A Week, but my last class did our behind-the-scenes tour of the Grand Rapids Public Museum collections storage, and it is always such fun. We also got to touch a mastodon tooth, a megalodon tooth, and a sturgeon skin!

Final session at #ifph2024! I haven’t been great about posting lol, but here we go. This panel is “Politics and public history: challenge and conflict.” First presenter is Renske de Vries, on public apologies from the Dutch government.

At an interesting panel this morning at #ifph2024 titled “Alternative voices in post-conflict societies: using oral history to disrupt binary narratives.” First speaker did oral histories with people from migrant communities in Northern Ireland.

Conferencing while #neurodivergent: sitting on the floor in the back with my loops in so I can concentrate. Giving myself permission to be where I need to be to engage > sitting in an uncomfortable chair and worrying what ppl with think.
