In the past few days here in Asheville I’ve seen turkeys, rabbits, owls, hawks, bears, and had to evict both a black rat snake and a tiny field mouse from my house. The most wildlife I’d see on the regular in New Orleans was cockroaches and bayou rats. I’ll take this trade.

A wild turkey wandered into my yard a few days ago. Unlike how I feel, it didn’t stay long.

My neighborhood is wild turkey central today! I’ve counted 17 of them and I’m pretty sure I haven’t counted all of them, they are in several large groups, dispersed through the woods. So glad to be able to add some good bird pics to birdsky!

For some reason I find aggressive wild turkeys blocking traffic to be adorable, and aggressive Canada geese blocking traffic to be asshole neighbors. I think it’s because the turkeys don’t look real.

I took this pic last week & I’ve been going back to look at it from time to time. I snapped it right as this male wild turkey was sticking his neck out to gobble at the hens nearby. In today's episode of Turkeys DGAF, they blocked the road & proceeded to attack my car. I honked my horn, but like most Priuses, it just sounded like a dog toy getting stepped on. Did not intimidate these guys. Finally maneuvered around them. Magnificent birdies out of their damned spring minds.
