I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people. But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.

I went and did it, and paid an exorbitant amount in ticketing fees via an agency. But we are going to Australia and Japan this year. In one trip. With a 6 year old. Thank you, Jeopardy.

Last night I fell on the curling ice, and got a tap on my head. Then had a lovely visit from the paramedics, who confirmed that yes I am fine. My pride is hurt. I was so mad that I did something so stupid that I lost it. May have chucked my broom at the boards. This thread is about teaching. 1/n

Please,

clubs... Please. Don't use AI Slop for "try curling!" promotion graphics leading up to the Olympics. People we're trying to reach already know little enough about the sport without getting further confused by.... whatever AI thinks curling is. (Hockey with kettle bells, apparently.)

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

As the great Suketu Mehta wrote in the accompanying essay, "By 1643, only nineteen years after the first Walloon settlers founded New Amsterdam, 18 languages were already being spoken in the city—among a population of a mere 500." To hell with fictions of a homogenous past, linguistic & otherwise.

Catching up on the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony and there have been some amazing performances and speeches. But I bawled through most of Cyndi Lauper's performance. I would ride into battle for that woman.

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

This week, the kid was introduced to the movie Elf, and the TMNT theme song. She has now mashed them together and is bouncing around the house singing, to the TMNT tune: "Cotton-headed ninny muggins" I am a proud parent.

hubby hung out with a fellow contestant for much of their shared filming day. The same contestant got called up for Second Chance, too, and made it a point to find Eug while they were out there filming on different days. There are good people on Jeopardy.

Let people be their true selves, as they know and understand them. Let children explore their identities. Celebrate difference and variety and the incredible spectrum of humanity. The only alternative denies an opportunity to celebrate the joy of human flourishing and is ultimately unspeakably cruel

This week, I sat & made 28 individual thank you images saying why I am thankful for each of my students. Then spent yesterday individually emailing 27 families (siblings were a 2 for 1) the images. It took ages. But replies have been trickling in, & they are lovely. So it was time well spent.

I have more teacher conferences than ANY teacher in my district, and I dunno, I kind of want a gold star sticker or something in acknowledgement. Because I am at school long after the other teachers have gone. And I am exhausted.
