6 months ago our van was using 64.2gCO2/km. With a record low April, it’s now at 56.1gCO2/km. That’s nearly a 13% improvement on ‘tail-pipe’ emissions in that time, and I’m still driving the same 2-Ton 9-seater vehicle, in the same way as I was then… and it’s only gonna get lower 😎 #EVsky #BEV

Great idea, and in France the similar scheme has been hugely popular and demand far outstrips supply. Plus 70k new #EVs per year, become 70k second hand EVs. This helps get a huge increase on the roads to start with, which then generates a substantial second hand supply!

My local biodiversity group is showing Ireland's first screening of "People's Emergency Briefing On Climate and Nature Breakdown". It's in lovely Tracton, between Carrigaline and Kinsale, in Cork.

When my solar went in (non-commercial) in 2023 anything above 22% efficiency was pretty good. Going back to 2021, we were about 20% efficient. If I’m not wrong, in 5 years Solar PV has added 20% efficiency to a panels output, and over 60% increase in the last decade! That’s a significant difference

Very cool to see this data outlined like this. This shows 102,425 EVs on our roads in IRL. Good news is it’s a reasonable bit higher again, including imports, and incl categories of Van, Trucks and Buses I’ve calculated that we sit at 125,891 passenger vehicles, and at 133,668 total #BEVs #EVSky

A) we have the cars, they are better to their ICE equivalents [IMO 😁] B) while not new, Hibra Design in Cork are designing and retrofitting tractors and other heavy machinery B-2) Volvo A30, a 270kWh dump truck with a 29,000kg load. These are the ones we see building our roads, so eh 🤷‍♂️

Renewable generation and discharging storage equalled 56% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 84% at 15:15. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 33% of demand. 2% of generation was exported, 12% of demand was met by imports.

This is a very good take on the current situation of renewables and where we should be heading. This is the way!

Current approaches in IRL are not moving at this pace, it needs to be stepped up here. Considering the current situation *gestures at this* we can clearly fund things when in a bit of a hurry, this should be treated the same. Current green loans are low interest; they need to be 0.X%, not 3.X%+!

Just worth saying, for absolutely legal clarity: the government does not have the legal prerogative to abolish carbon tax in its entirety. Carbon tax is a form of excise, and EU directives require excise on diesel to be a minimum of 33c per litre. (1/2)

I have 2 EVs. Both at home and on the public network I can charge without issue the last few days. My pricing has remained fixed, no massive swings in price. It has been reliable, fixed costs per km to drive, and without surprises. I am still affected by road closures etc, but not for lack of ‘fuel’

I’m home a little while from #Donegal, love that place. Photos to come!! However, it took an additional 2 hours of driving, on a 4 hour driving time journey to get back home. And that was going well out of my way to avoid as much traffic as I could. Honestly, these protests have won no favours 🙄

This needs electrification, and importantly funds to make that switch possible. It’s EVs for everything with wheels, heat pumps for homes and businesses, solar and wind energy in abundance. And all with no unnecessary hurdles to planning. The rollout needs to move quickly to make this possible!

My Citroen has blown a LH brake light, again, again. Orig bulb: 66k kms Second bulb: 4k kms 🙄 Housing was a bit loose, sorted that… Third bulb then lasted: 36k kms Took me 10 mins (incl putting on my shoes), removing body panel and the whole light unit for a €1.69 part. This shouldn’t be ‘routine’

SIMI stats are out! New EV sales this year, up 40.55% to 2025 figures, making up 21.56% of new car sales, second only to Petrol Electric (Hybrid) aka, they “self-charging” kind…. Similar story in LCV, electric second to diesel and up 146.46%, but only make up 4.68% of the market there for vans 🚚

I won’t get to this event at the weekend, but these are fantastic for getting a chance to drive an #BEV and get to feel them. People who haven’t driven an EV can be skeptics, the majority I’ve spoken to post similar events I’ve run always say they will go EV sooner than they planned!

Through our engagement with GEVA, The Hungarian E-mobility Association (ELMOB) have shared a very interesting test they have done taking 31 EVs and driving them on the motorway (at proper 130 km/h speed, the legal limit in Hungary) until they died, at around 0°C. 1/4
