Another artist Marvel let go today was Visual Development Director
@andyparkart.bsky.social
! Which is wild as Andy is a staple! Andy was responsible for the visual direction of the Guardian of the Galaxy movies, the designs of Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Shang-Chi, latest Thor, and so much more!

Here’s just ONE of the artists Marvel Studios let go today: Wesley Burt, a brilliant veteran, one of the best in the industry. He made the viral Fantastic Four Valentine’s day card! He was also pivotal for the look of many films and shows like for example Loki, Black Panther, Avengers and so on!

Can’t believe the news, Disney shutting down the marvel. vis dev department. This teams art made them billions and billions of dollars, but it seems that paying a handful or so of fulltime illustrators is simply too much to ask these days.

Devastated to hear the entire Marvel Studios’s Visual Development team has been let go. This was my old home but more importantly, the home of so many incredible artists and peers. Absolutely heartbreaking 😔 Sending all my impacted peers my love and support. Please reach out if you need anything!

So saddened to hear about Gary Kelley’s passing. Kelley has been my favorite illustrator since i’ve been in art school, and you cannot overstate the level of influence he’s had on the American illustration cannon. One of the greatest to ever do it, and A terrible loss

I knew Amano has illustrated covers for Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe but today I learned, so has Takeshi Obata. Imagining these books as anime designed by Obata is hilarious. I love his art, it’s just the tone that it sets that’s crazy. (Left is Amano, right is Obata.)

You don't really want this. So much of TV is changed and discovered in the process. No master plan survives 13 eps of production. Your actors' abilities and chemistry opens up story paths you never imagined. Other ideas sink like a lead balloon. Master plans are overrated.
