The Kurt Hassler interview explains a lot of the biggest changes in the comics market on the early 00s. The robust TPB market we have today mostly came about due to pubs seeing manga collections exploded in book stores.

Got vol.2 of Tower Dungeon and am looking forward to reading it. Nice tries out fantasy with this, & the first vol was quite bonkers and fun.

Visited Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture. Shotaro Ishinomori, who is from the area, and his legacy are celebrated here, and as such, the streets (the main one of which is called Manga Road) are filled with Kamen Rider, Cyborg 009, and more statues!

1) In the 80’s I did a lot of activity and coloring books for Western Publishing as well as a variety of kids books from Muppets to Raggedy Anne while breaking into comics and doing steady work. Some weeks I’d do Conan then Purrtenders, etc. one of the projects was a Barbie coloring with water book.
