Shocked that the 96 replacements won’t run on weekends or evenings. The 96 was cross-city route that many EOTR residents relied on for weekend and evening service. Ward 7 never got its promised circulator, never got the DC Streetcar, and is now losing weekend cross-city bus service. D2X and C57.

Was just talking to someone about how we were promised an extension across the river when the streetcar opened, nine years ago. And yet, here we are with a mile of transit that is mocked and underutilized *because it’s not properly connected*

The streetcar has been planned & promised for over 20 years. It’s long past due for DC to make good on its promise. This ‘next generation streetcar’ suggested by the mayor sounds like another future broken promise. From one grand idea to another. We don’t need more reimagining. We need execution.

This is true. When originally proposed the DC Streetcar extension was supposed to have been operational by now. It hasn’t even started construction yet. According to DC Council it’s now supposed to start construction in 2026. But they haven’t even started utility relocation yet so maybe 2036?

Last night I was pleasantly surprised to realize I can hear the DC Streetcar faintly from my house late at night when the traffic noise dies down 🚇

DC Streetcar ridership now ABOVE pre-pandemic levels. And yet DC Council defunded streetcar extension just as ridership was surging. DC Streetcar on track to set records in calendar year 2024.

Forced car ownership is the biggest regressive tax on poor people in America. Here in DC our so-called progressive CMs perpetuate it by defunding transit EOTR.

Full house community DC streetcar panel discussion last night facilitated by us. Consistent theme of the night from Allen and DDOT was that “streetcar is still in the budget” — but we know that it’s been in the budget since 2018 and still hasn’t happened anyway. When will the broken promises end?

DC can afford 500 million for downtown stadium but not 100 million for transit expansion to underserved communities EOTR? Shortly after defunding the DC Streetcar extension EOTR — Mendelson is joining Bowser to announce legislation offering 500 million dollars for Capitol One Arena renovations.

Your regular reminder that if DC had built out the DC Streetcar system then these regional WMATA service cuts wouldn’t be such a big deal. Streetcars and LTR are the missing-middle of transit systems. Transit demand has fallen such that heavy-rail is too underutilized to be sustainable.
