First round of tropicbird pics taken from the boat. There are about 16 birds in this colony. The national bird of the Bahamas. They do not walk! Other than mating and raising young, they live in the air, soaring. They sleep with half their brain like dolphins. They chirp like a machine.

Talking about Hoverflies, this little one was feeding on our Betony plant last summer. It is a male Common-snout Hoverfly, latin name, Rhingia campestris. It has the nickname of "Heineken fly" as with its long snout, it reaches the parts of tubular flowers other flies can't. 😂 #MHHSBD

The sun really brought the bees out in Norwich today. I clocked up 7 species. Anthophora plumipes, Andrena bicolor, Bombus pratorum and Bombus hypnorum pictured. The other 3 were all bumblebees - B. terrestris, B. pascuorum and B. lapidarius. #bees #pollinators

This is a great example of how ecosystems have myriad connections that that don't fit our binary ideas of 'friend or foe'. One species of insect regarded as a 'pest' supports another that people want to help in their gardens. Spray off scale insects and you could be impacting #bumblebees.

Took a spider from the cemetery home to ID. Turned out to be a Liny which I don't normally look at (too small). Surprised that it was straightforward to key out: female Gonatium rubellum. I put the live spider in a 'floating frame' to keep it still under the microscope and released her afterwards.
