#FragmentFriday - Another game I abandoned! This one was heavily inspired by bitGenerations: dotstream! This one's built in pico-8 and unlike dotstream there are no lanes, this made it kind of difficult to control, so I learned why they wound up doing that. I added boosters and NPC opponents!

It's brought to my attention that there are solo ttrpg games? I'd love to get a better idea of that since I don't have the time or energy to really navigate setting up multiplayer games aaaand learn how they all work. If you know of any in particular I should give a look at, send em my way!

I should add to this that even if you're low on cash, consider reaching out if you're an indie game dev and you're having performance problems. Every skill I have is teachable, and I don't have infinite free time to talk, but I might be able to give optimization advice with a little context!

Before I was even making games, I spent a lot of time trying to understand game design and what makes things fun. I think these discussions are super interesting. The bar to yapping is so low, I've yet to have anyone straight up say "what are you even talking about" but they probably should lmao

Random thought for the night... I think idea guys get way too much hate in the gamedev community. I find them fascinating, albeit a bit naive. But at times, they can really reignite the spark of creativity. In any kind of art, isn't that incredibly helpful?!

Today in Godscrown news, I've been working on a new workflow for creating Horror card art... again. I decided Magicavoxel doesn't really work for me. I needed something a bit more fluid. So I slapped some geometry nodes and scripts together to render out arbitrary models as a Texture3D for #Godot!

So, managed to pay most of the late bills but rent is still late, my landlady is getting on my case, any help is appreciated!

Expanding on this thought, as a Gamedev, what kind of experience would you desire? And as a reader/watcher of indie gamedev topics, what would you like to see? I'm thinking it might be nice to just have a nice sit down and discussion with the devs over a game...

I'm pretty annoyed that @gofundme.com won't let me fund my hopes and dreams. This is why we don't have Batman. Millionaires are evil and crowdfunding a batman is against terms of service.

I don't have answers to this, but I wish I did! Maybe indie publications/sites would be viable? I run my own blog... I'd love to give reviews to indie games, leaning towards analyzing the game design. Not at all sure how well that'd really get folks' attention, but it'd be fun at the very least!

Hey pixel and 3D artists! At what point do you know you're ready to take commissions? Is it a matter of knowing your expected turnaround or simply a good portfolio to display options? I've always thought it might be nice to do some commission work, but I've never timed myself or anything really.

#ShaderSunday! Made some new horror displays for Godscrown! Icons are probably going to be changed as I refine things, but the shader is probably going to stick around! I have some hopes to make the character portraits react to being near death/insanity, but that's a future me problem

Hey #ScreenShotsaturday does a kanban board count? I spent last night organizing the stuff I need to do for Godscrown, a lot of the big tasks are mostly finished! There's still a bit of refactor work and some systems that need to be added, but player input is right around the corner!

My childhood was weird, from playing a lot of PS1/2, NES/N64, to... Homelessness. I learned at 10 years old how to program, thanks to internet forums and library books. I wanted to make games, because I knew I wasn't going to afford them at the time. I made a lot of very simple games, and it was fun

Reworked how I keep track of points that interact with shaders (the colour transition and grass interaction) to a compute shader that writes to a 3D texture. It can now handle a lot more points, and because it's a texture I can create trails 🎉 #ScreenshotSaturday #GameDev #IndieDev #Shader

I think I missed last week's #FragmentFriday, but here I am again digging up the forgotten games I've worked on in the past. This is Pico Wars! A game heavily based on Advance Wars! I made it in Pico-8, but eventually ran out of tokens. It has hotseat multiplayer and zero tutorial! #gamedev #pico8

Been slowly trying to learn MagicaVoxel for Godscrown horror art. It's been slow, and figuring out how to render some of the cards this way will be such a challenge. But! It exports in the same exact way I need for my voxel renderer, soooo in theory this should all work out.

This is a super interesting read! I'm not really familiar with ttrpgs at all, but I think there's a lot of good information here about game design in general, especially on the topics of teaching gameplay, something I've gotta really learn!

It's taken quite a bit of work and thinking, but the main gameplay loop of Godscrown is functional! I've got a lot to do to really polish the visuals and UI, but I'm happy the code is all working and the hard part is out of the way! The rest is just fancy particle effects, shaders, and text. Ezpz.
