Experimenting with pico8-able Pokemon sprites, gimme your favorite gen 1 Pokemon! I'm trying to stick with a 3-color palette for sprite packing reasons, 3 color palette (in theory, anything from the extended palette, but I'm going with this big green gradient), and 8 or 16x

So back in my early gamedev days I explained a process for layering sprite data in pico-8. I still get credited for this every now and then in carts and it always makes me happy to see how people put it to use, since I've never actually used it myself! #gamedev #pico8

I'll be giving it a bit of time before I try to work on a new DFECT game, but I've already started to consider a few candidates. First though, I really want to nail down what DFECT means in terms of design and goals. For now, that means "A reimagining of a classic game with configurable gameplay."

Added rotation for the ball based on the tangential speed on contact. This is not physically "accurate": some energy should be spent changing the ball's rotation speed, and there is no friction on the walls. But it feels better! #pico8 #gamedev

I've been getting closer to complete with PONG DFECT! Today, I've been implementing the custom game menu. There's a LOT of options that are modifiable! I've gotta give some of these values human-readable names, and add a game starting animation, but it's all hooked up! #pico-8 #gamedev

I made an entire lighting system in #pico-8 just so that I can make this effect and I have no idea if I should keep it or if it's too distracting. Guess I could dim it a little bit, though.

This took like an hour for me to figure out and I'm still not entirely sure of my choices. Art style and favorite game were the toughest. Anyway feel free to ask me about any of these and I'll yap about why it's there

Just submitted a game with @natanmaia95.bsky.social for #blackandwhitegamejam or rather, 1-BIT JAM 10! Go ghost hunting with this pixelated 1 bit aesthetic! It was a blast getting the shaders working, finally a chance to play with the stencil buffer properly, and I learned a bit about particles!

Ah! It's friday, #FragmentFriday, a game I started and never completed! I wanted to make a platform fighter in pico-8, and that's where I wound up with this! I ran out of sprite space before I had anything really playable, but it was really fun to put together a moveset and effects for it!

Ah, @xordev.com ported my erosion filter to Shadertoy alternative fragcoord.xyz, where all the parameters can be conveniently tweaked with sliders instead of having to edit code values and recompile.

Been playing around in pico8 and it's crazy how building your own vector library will increase your understanding of what the hell vector functions do by five billion percent
