Went from completing my replay of Shadow of the Colossus into a first time play of Ico. Really pumped to be knocking that off my list of shame.

RPG where every NPC is distracted by their phone and it makes interactions tedious and time consuming. Item shop vendor takes 2mins to ask if you need any potions.

The design I imagined is solidifying now. I’m almost got all the basic moving parts of the game loop in. Scoring, progression/escalation and a fail state are left to do. Then much juicing up and polish. #pico8

#pico8 game 2 update: - developing visuals some more - setup interactions between player plates and incoming "score blocks". The idea eventually is to have some warning visuals on the borders for what colours blocks are coming up. Then I'll add scoring or damage to the player as the consequence.

The idea for game #2 is less constant movement and more about setting up the board to maximize points and avoid mistakes. I've built some simple plate selection logic but need to add more visual feedback. Colour alone is not going to work for some players vision. #pico8

#pico8 game #2 update: - base plate visuals now a more generic version - they will light up in service of scoring - removed the ship concept for the player - not required by the design - converted the plates and connecting pipes to objects in the code so they can be updated in the game loop

I've made a start on #pico8 game #2 and aiming for another face paced arcade thing. So far I've mostly been trying to hash out some kind of look for the thing. Not 100% happy but I've at least got some pieces on screen.

I refuse the argument that doing something faster is inherently better than the alternative. It leads to a joyless life.
