This year was all sorts of ups and downs, I am very grateful for those who believed in me and encouraged me to do my best work. Knock on wood I haven't gotten sick once. Thankful for the chances to get out and see the best parts my country has to offer. It's hard but I'll treasure these small joys.

It seems weird to criticize a game studio like ZA/UM for reusing the same systems and mechanics in a new title when From Software, Naughty Dog, Bioware, Ubisoft, IOI, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, and others were doing it for decades. Making game systems is hard and ZA/UM is a young studio.

I have a whole yarn about VN-style storytelling and its presentation across multiple games but - -man, I'm still much in love with the Ace Attorney games and Ghost Trick for their character animations. It's all so very charming. There is an appeal in letting visual speak on their own.

TFW you gotta wrinkle your brain even harder as a concept artist to work around constraints. Sometimes it gets to the point you're deconstructing visual references into separate key words to reimagine ideas and rebuild them up like jenga blocks. Some days it feels like breaking out duct tape.

The current reality with most working creatives is we need better browsers and search engines. Even for those who don't use gAI or LLMs, trying to find exactly what we're looking for is constantly being obstructed or misrepresented. And those companies are doing this on purpose.
