Watching five seasons of All Creatures Great and Small on PBS over the last month or so was such a balm to my soul, and I am not exaggerating when I say that the gentleness and wholesomeness of this show was the counterbalance that allowed me to stay informed and engaged with the news.

Really appreciating this line from @govpritzker.illinois.gov's speech in New Hampshire this week: “#Autistic kids and adults who are loving contributors to our society don’t deserve to be stigmatized by a weird nepo baby who once stashed a dead bear in the backseat of his car.”

Breast cancer diagnoses rose by over 300% between 1973 and 1992. Was there a breast cancer epidemic?! NO. Mammograms were implemented for screening in 1976. PREVALENCE is a function of being able to correctly diagnose something. This is also about autism.

It’s Autism “Awareness” Day again. A day built on pity, pathology, and performative blue lights. A day that centers parents, not autistic humans. A day where we’re either inspiration or tragedy - never real humans.

Agreed, and the more we amplify what Booker is doing, the more we make it matter, in public perception and as an example to other elected officials. On the other hand, the more we disparage and tear it down, the more we make it not matter. It's not all up to him.
