Watched this for the first time the other night and cannot recommend it enough. As seen in this clip the movie is filled with these incredibly ambitious shots with lots of camera panning and the tone is so surreal and fun. A wonderful movie.

I just read E.T.A. Hoffman’s ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’ for the first time (the Mrs. St. Simon translation). It’s an entertaining story but the climactic fight happens entirely off-page and isn’t even described! The Nutcracker just comes back with a bloody sword and says “OK, I killed him.”

Like man, my career only exists in the way that it does now because a production designer was googling "realistic pokemon" and found me. If he could have just had a machine spit that out, I never would have gotten a job. This is a major issue hitting artist discoverability.

Now that I think about it, the "BLOOD TYPE: BLUE" warning that appears throught 'Evangelion' being a reference to a title of a Japanese live action movie from the late '70s is kind of funny. To localize the joke, the English version could have changed the alert to instead say "STAR WARS".

I’m so happy I got to attend this! Some of Yoshinari’s answers to audience questions were fairly surprising, particularly in regards to CG vs hand drawn animation. (Yoshinari seemed envious of productions that get to use MORE of the CG— it’s more expensive, so 2D is often used not by choice!)

Rewatching 'Rock-A-Doodle'. I saw it plenty of times as a kid, and once a couple of years ago. I don't remember this gag at all but it made me laugh pretty hard this time.

Can't make a movie where Asterix and Obelix meet American Indians without having a ceremonial pipe scene, but it's the '90s, and children will be watching this, so you have to make it very clear throughout the scene that smoking is very, very bad.

I'm surprised this dialogue works so well for me considering it's also pretty schmaltzy. It's not how real people talk at all, it FEELS like a writer showing off, but I enjoy it a lot anyway.

I *love* the look of film noir. The expressionistic production design, the lighting, the-- HEY, that fly's a cartoon! Pretty accurate movement; it took me a bit to realize it wasn't a superimposed live action fly. Whoever the animator was did a good job!

Is it just me or do some of these TCM introductions not feel entirely professional? "The movie doesn't make much sense, and the lead actress had just given birth to twins, but I can forgive both of those transgressions because SQUEEE <3<3<3"
