Thread of what I'm reading, partially for accountability. Starting with what I just finished: I got sort of inured to the tendency of conspiracy fiction to hit you over the head with the Political Import last year's Ellroy binge. Found the system focus and vagueness refreshing here.

2024 was a great year personally - really enjoyed my last 6mo in Taiwan, started reading again in a serious way really for the first time since college, started writing again (some substack stuff awaiting edits, one thing out non pseudonymously), started law school. The world...? Not so hot.

One thing I'm kinda fixated on: how social media has encouraged a culture of exceptionally inept rhetoric, and speakers who clearly are getting caught up in their own words. Words that often fall apart upon even a basic investigation.

Taking a step back, kind of wild that the guy is from the same social class and effectively same political persuasion as the UHC exec. Just a question of generational differences & alienation. We're in for a wild time!

First time I've felt an ounce of sympathy for the exec. If you cannot feel the shame, the indignity, of being erased from the earth by an "Idiocracy, a satire, has a lot to say about where WE might be headed,,, 🤔" guy you have no heart

I think the shocked discourse about people not really being sympathetic to the murdered health exec misses how mad people are I think the enthusiastic left discourse about it doesn't get that people being mad is not as helpful for us as it seems.
