Scary how quickly it's pushed. I've used AI to bat ideas around and connect things as I've gone through my MA and the increase in a final sentence of 'Would you like me to structure this as a high grade essay introduction?' is noticeable despite it all having nothing to do with my assignments.

The individuals centered in all these "the students are ALL cheating" stories always strike me as incurious idiot sociopaths. The one here says the reason to go to college is: it's a good place to 'meet your wife & co-founder.' He's at Columbia, where the Core Curriculum tries to educate the soul!

Small point to add about this: relying on AI to do academic writing leads students to rely on inappropriate sources that are chosen by AI because they can be easily accessed. Even those trying to do more of the work themselves will be led to cite 'lessons for grades 7, 8, 9' in a *college* paper.

AI is a massive problem. Every semester I fail people for using it, but I'm confident there are a lot more. It generates an intense air of mutual suspicion and anxiety because the temptation to use it is so strong, no matter what the consequences might be.... nymag.com/intelligence...
