You "ease pressure" by paying them and FINALLY staffing up to proper numbers. (Like - hire more controllers than you think you need so that there are plenty of students in training. And then keep hiring controllers for YEARS so that retirements don't cause perpetual staffing crises.)

The Speaker of the House is getting paid not to work while the NTSB team heading to the crash site in Kentucky is not. Mike Johnson needs to call the House back in session or get his ass down there and shift some wreckage. He needs to experience what dedicated federal employees do for a living.

Right now, the US has easily the most staffing triggers I have ever seen in one plan A whopping 39 separate facilities and areas have a below minimum number of staff available to operate normally and initiatives are being put in to mitigate that and ensure continuous safe operations #aviation #ATC

I'm working on an article for @leehamnews.com about why NextGen, the most recent ATC upgrade plan, failed after costing ~$15 billion. Important context: a string of upgrade failures preceded it, going all the way back to the 1970s. I'll talk about this in my next newsletter also - out this week.

Air traffic controllers ended the last government shutdown and they're sure as shit leading that charge again in 2025. There are staffing triggers today (so far!) from Dallas to the oceanic routes across the Atlantic. Flying anywhere is going to get increasingly bad.
