I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.

But one thing I will say for the Assembly Cut—it is so, so punishingly long. It’s two hours and twenty-four minutes but it feels easily like three and a half. Not blaming Fincher, this wouldn’t have been his final cut even if he was allowed to do one, but I can’t say it’s a finished movie.

Just watched the Assembly Cut and nope. Alien 3 is still a hot mess. It feels like four screenplays mashed together, nobody had a clear vision for the theme or central concept, and I can’t even praise the direction—the climax is just indistinguishable guys running through indistinguishable hallways.

Amazing episode, and I couldn’t believe I didn’t notice how late Justine turned up to class until you pointed it out!

Listening the Dark Fantasy series in my @eyeoftheduckpod.com catch-up and it’s really making me think about the way trends are so impossible to evaluate in the moment—just like nobody knew how to sift out the deluge of post-Lucas Star Wars imitators (and Lucas himself was making a weird art film…)

To anyone who hasn’t endured it—-I cannot stress enough how truly awful -15 degree weather is. Especially with strong winds. This kind of turnout on this day is a testament to the resilience and moral courage of all these people.
