Leafs really sacrificed Sundin to Vancouver only so he could rise again 20 years later and steal their first overall pick.

This kind of feels like when the Rangers got Lafrenière? Team tumbled out of contention, only to be blessed with the 1st OA pick, to… maybe bounce back?

I’m sorry, but… a… a good thing happened? To the Leafs? Is this allowed? Is this a joke?

Everything about these hires seems sub-optimal. Who knows, they could be fine, but I think we have good reason to doubt that possibility. More importantly, I'm beginning to worry we're entering a dark period of meddling Leafs ownership from which it might take decades for the team to emerge.

A lot of people say the Leafs can’t rebuild because of the two 1sts, but I think the more important question is Matthews. If he isn’t going to re-sign (and why would he, at this rate?) you have to trade him. So maybe that’s next summer, but to me, he’s the single biggest deciding factor.

Hiring Chayka-Sundin feels like drafting Tyler Biggs all over again. Yeah, there’s a chance it could work out, but even if it does, it will have been a stupid decision because it’s gambling on unnecessarily long odds. Also, it will probably just suck. Here goes nothing, I guess.

I gotta say, love you @berkshire.bsky.social, but like, there isn’t a single person — not one — in my entire feed of hockey fans of all teams, who complains about reffing more than you. It’s not even close. You probably double or triple even the next closest fan of any team, including the Leafs.

I wouldn’t say this out loud because I’m sitting in a garage *full* of Habs fans drinking beer here in Québec but uhhh Dobes just ain’t hanging with Vasilevskiy, here. The difference is goaltending.

Is it just me or is everyone angrier during this first round than usual? Maybe without the despondency of Leafs fans to break things up a bit, the rage of other fans has just been left to cluster. If the Leafs sign Chayka, we can even things out anyway.
