Yes! See govt commitment £22bn over 25 yrs on Carbon capture storage in 2 locations vs ~£1bn p.a of ECO energy efficiency at risk under the Budget, which is jobs in every area. Why is #energyefficiency boom and bust? Bad for quality (eg NAO), bad for employment, skills, bad for homes & fuel poverty.

The rumours of cuts to #energyefficiency funding continue. No 10 & HMT really should be thinking how the Budget will affect #energysecurity. And #greenjobs. And public engagement. And remediation following the #NAO report. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater would be an understatement.

The real story here is Reeves trying to gut the warm homes plan. If she gets her way at Budget and the ECO green levy is axed, then green homes funding for insulation and electrification will be cut from £21bn to £13bn over 5 years - a 40% cut which will lead to more gas dependency and higher bills

And grown-up government shouldn't highlight the role of #energyefficiency in building energy security, pledge green jobs and then brief plans to cut the only energy efficiency scheme (ECO) that's available across the country. It's rushed, & will undermine quality, fuel poverty and net zero targets.

Spent a good chunk of time today with a solid wall insulation installer, including covering what has gone wrong in the sector. Peaks and troughs in funding is key. Results in subcontractors, loss of direct responsibility, and funding coming thru in winter 1/2

We @cotalityuk.bsky.social work with housing providers, local authorities and financial services. The latter are paying much more attention to physical climate risks than the owners of homes. The former are focussed on mitigation, and new Govt standards - Decent Homes - don’t require adaptation.

This Qs the value and attention given to parties’ manifestos. Ask the low carbon sector. Govt legally has to cut carbon and manifesto further encouraged investment. Briefings on cuts are causing concern, and risk huge job losses. Manifesto must be stuck to if climate goals are to be met.

Cutting #heatpump support would be a false economy. Yes it’s taken up by middle and higher income households but these early adopters are helping companies build out their customer journeys, deal with teething problems, support #greenjobs and normalise a new technology. It’s not a handout.

Earlier this evening I had the pleasure of interviewing a couple absolutely DELIGHTED with their solid wall #insulation. An easier to heat home, no more damp clothes, no more mould, no more asthmatic cough and no longer suffering noise from Heathrow flight path. That’s the goal!

Important thread here on the possibility of scrapping ECO. I would add that when ECO was cut in 2013, 10,000 people lost their jobs. That's more than 3 times as many than Scunthorpe steel works and a whopping 20 times more than Grangemouth oil refinery

Getting an air to air heat pump fitted this week as part of @energysyscat.bsky.social research. 3 lessons so far: size of the hole through wall = ~6cm; I’m allowed to paint the indoor units; and AirPod noise cancelling stands up to someone drilling through dense concrete 5m away during a Teams call.

Every time we see further increases in people living in temporary accommodation I feel it should be pointed out that the big reason is that Local Housing Allowance is capped based on 2023 rents. Rents are rising, so private renting is increasing out of range for families in particular.

Spent much of the day clearing the verge outside our house, and raking leaves from the gutter. Quite polarised responses between those giving a cheery hello and others looking mystified why I’d do the Council’s job for them. Answer: because the only thing Via do is spray weeds with glyphosate.
