If you're curious what a non-preservationist gaming ecosystem looks like, you can look at the mobile stores, where most of the shit you remember does not exist in any form anymore.

I'll also add, people have said "well physical has stopped mattering, games are never on disc", which is false. Yes, some games do this and there's day one patches, but most still house the entire v1.0 build. It's just hard to tell because of the way installation and patching is handled in tandem.

I don't think gaming is necessarily dying but things are getting worse and the landscape is changing. I'm glad my favorite genres will likely be playable on Switch 2 or PS5 still.

The thing about Nintendo in relation to the rest of the industry is that their anti-consumer actions are all rooted in maintaining the company's overall health and not *just* maximizing profit. Their actions/blunders are usually at least understandable and rooted beyond simple monetary extraction

So either Sony: ▪️Sells an optional PS6 disc drive (lol) ▪️Somehow allows you to transfer your discs into digital on PS6 (lol...lmao even) So I'll keep the PS5 plugged in or these become coasters
