“awful people don’t deserve to be killed, but they don’t deserve to be praised, either” is apparently a thought too complex for the pundit mind

Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.

Watched “Best of Enemies” last night about the 1968 William F. Buckley/Gore Vidal debates and now I am dying for a full feature-length drama about these two starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant

The mass starvation & killing of Palestinians in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli gov’t is a chillul hashem, a desecration of God. Jewish leaders who criticized Zohran Mamdani for three words he doesn’t use should raise their voices loudly here as well.

Gaza is starving. Where are the American Jewish leaders?
A fear of being labelled antisemitic still deters American Jews and Jewish institutions from taking a position that is morally correct.

I just sent this out. The Jewish people have moral frameworks for this moment. It is a choice not to heed them. Please let us meet this moment, let us see the shattered Temple around us, right now, and our responsibility to it.

Shabbat Shalom to everyone who recognizes that the safety, freedom & thriving of Jews and Muslims are bound up together — in Israel & Palestine, across the five boroughs, and in many other beloved places.

“There are things you could do or say—as a person in academia, or in the media, or an N.G.O.—that would get them to come after you. But if you know where the lines are, and you don’t cross them, you can have a good life.”

Is the U.S. Becoming an Autocracy?
Other countries have watched their democracies slip away gradually, without tanks in the streets. That may be where we’re headed—or where we already are.

Can tell y'all as someone who was a bit (a bunch) more inside the conversations around repro, saw how that sausage got made that before, during, & after the fall of Roe, Choices Were Made. Painstaking hard work built in coalition was undone. Refusal to wield power is a relationship to power.

“I've always tried to be a private person” is something Neil Gaiman actually wrote in the first paragraph of a blog post that’s supposed to convince us he’s telling the truth. Wild.

the thing about the Gaiman story, as with so many stories of monstrous men, is that it's the same boring solipsistic pathology over and over and over. they all think that they're God's Specialest Boy and that if they do something, it can't possibly be wrong or bad. it's so pathetic.

Last July, Neil Gaiman, author of The Sandman and American Gods, was accused of sexual assault. Lila Shapiro goes deep on the allegations and looks at his upbringing in Scientology and his relationship with his wife, Amanda Palmer, and what she knew.

Just a reminder that Neil Gaiman’s hired PR firm, Edendale Strategies, is likely flooding social media with AI bots to drown out the fact that seven women have now come forward about his decades-long pattern of coercion and SA. Don’t let them control the conversation. Keep talking about it.
