Watching Mamdani's victory speech, I'm struck by his—and his campaign's—unabashed vision of the US as an immigrant society, a culture built from the ground up from diversity. It is a complete rejection and reversal of the search for a white-washed homogeneity that the political right projects.

Good riddance to that bigoted opportunist, and may all of his enablers be next. "I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life. but let tonight be the final time I utter his name."

I have actually not seen Mamdani give a formal speech and what I’ll say is that unlike so many of his peers he is not trying to mimic anyone in his delivery. He is simply being himself and it is very effective.

Cuomo gave a fairly graceless concession speech, and Mamdani rips his skin off: "My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo the best in private life. But let tonight be the last time I mention his name."

And the defining feature of White Christian Nationalism — which is now just about completely intertwined with Trumpism — is that any exercise of political power by those who aren't part of the "elect" is inherently illegitimate and should face violent reprisal.

Traditional American politics is premised on the notion that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win and you have to deal with that. But Trumpism is premised on the notion that any result where you don’t win is illegitimate, unlawful, fraud, criminal. You can’t negotiate with people like that.
