The narrative seems to be(come) that the Dutch election shows a “comeback of the political center”. We have seen this frame before, implying “the center” has an ideological substance and is stable. But “the center” keeps moving right on mostly nativist, but also often authoritarian, issues.

CONTEXT: Almost every election, a (new) far-right party will be the darling of the media and become normalized in the media and politics. This started with List Pim Fortuyn (LPF), then went to Geert Wilders' Party for Freedom (PVV), Thierry Baudet's Forum for Democracy (FdV), and now JA21.

My Overton window jokes clearly bare repeating.

New research | 4 largest US asset managers, like BlackRock and Vanguard, now manage 1/8th of all Dutch listed companies. That’s over 10 times more than the five largest Dutch asset managers. They are much less likely to vote in favour of climate resolutions compared to Dutch asset managers.

The Netherlands will most likely vote for the one man party again with no members to either critique whatever he says, let alone hold him accountable. That in a nutshell is how politically uneducated our population has become.

If its locked behind a paywall but in the public interest, do not expect sympathy from me anytime soon for your so-called journalism.
